Apple's New Home Ecosystem: How HomeView, HomePod, and Apple TV Work Together

Apple is officially making a massive push into your living room. The focus is shifting heavily toward smart home hardware. We have four major product announcements to cover that completely change how you interact with your house. Let's dive right in.

Introducing the all-new HomeView

The HomeView is a totally new product category. It looks like a hybrid between an iPad and a HomePod. It features a 7-inch retina display and comes in four finishes: silver, starlight, rose gold, and a bold space gray.

You get two design options to choose from. The first is a rounded home base sound station. The second is a wall-mounted version. You can attach it to any wall in your kitchen, living room, or bedroom.

It comes packed with a front-facing camera that recognizes up to six different people. When you walk up to it, the HomeView automatically personalizes the widgets and interface just for you. Your kids will see a completely different setup than you do. It also supports hands-free FaceTime and music playback. Everything is powered by Apple Intelligence and the new Siri AI.

Both models of the HomeView are priced at $299.

HomePod mini 2 gets smarter and brighter

The HomePod mini 2 keeps the familiar spherical design. It comes in five colors: pink, green, blue, white, and a bold midnight finish.

Under the hood, it features an upgraded S10 chip. This enables more advanced computational audio and powers the new Siri AI integration.

My favorite new feature is the sound glow. The top of the HomePod mini 2 now animates to match the music you are playing. It creates an incredible atmosphere in a dark room.

You can also use the HomePod mini 2 as an external speaker for your Mac. It integrates flawlessly via a wired connection. This is a huge win if you work on a Mac mini or Mac Studio and want an upgraded audio setup.

The HomePod mini 2 will cost you $149.

The powerhouse Apple TV 4K

Many of you have been waiting for an upgraded Apple TV 4K. It is finally here.

Performance gets a massive bump thanks to the new A19 chip. Navigating the interface and playing games is significantly smoother. But the biggest upgrades are all about audio and smart controls.

The Apple TV 4K box now features three built-in far-field microphones. You can talk directly to the box itself using Siri AI. You do not even need the remote to search for shows or control playback.

Speaking of the Siri Remote, it finally gets Find My integration and Precision Finding. You no longer have to tear apart your couch looking for it. Use your iPhone to track it down, and the remote will even play a sound from a built-in speaker to help you locate it.

You can now connect up to four HomePod mini 2s to your Apple TV 4K. You can even mix them with the larger second-generation HomePods. The Apple TV 4K automatically identifies where each speaker is placed in the room. It then adjusts the audio timing and volume levels to give you the ultimate home theater surround sound experience.

The new Apple TV 4K starts at $299 and comes with 128GB of storage.

The Apple Home Collection

To tie the whole house together, Apple introduced a new line of smart accessories. They partnered with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric to create the Apple Home Collection.

Assortment of Apple Home Collection accessories including a thermostat and security cameras

This lineup includes:

  • Smart thermostats starting at $200.
  • Outdoor security cameras.
  • Smart doorbells.
  • Smart door locks priced at $400.

Everything integrates perfectly with the new HomeView. You can also control these accessories using your Apple Watch, iPhone, or iPad through the dedicated Home app.

A quick note for EU users

There is one major disappointment to mention. The HomeView device will not be available in the EU at launch. This limitation comes down to the new Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features being blocked by local regulations. Hopefully, this changes in the coming years.

The bottom line

Apple is taking the smart home seriously. These new devices work together seamlessly. The HomeView acts as the center of your house. The HomePod mini 2 handles your audio. The Apple TV 4K powers your entertainment. And the Apple Home Collection connects everything else. It is an exciting time to upgrade your smart home setup.
